Philosophy

In order for any curriculum to be effective, it must have three components; it must be meaningful, memorable, and manageable. If it is meaningful at the time, but you do not remember anything over the long-term, then it was ineffective. If the material is rich and the memory tools work, but it is difficult to implement, then it will soon be left on the shelf.

In Foundations, we designed each lesson to be meaningful, memorable, and manageable.

Meaningful
Children are capable of understanding Biblical truths at a young age and do not need the word of God to be watered down. Children love to read the Bible and discover for themselves what it says. Foundations lessons involve daily Bible reading and discussion questions that reveal God's plan. The NIV (New International Version) is used for its readability.

Memorable
God’s word is a “lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path,” yet it is difficult for most of us to carry our Bible with us everywhere. When we memorize scripture, we are able to take God’s instruction manual with us wherever we go. Scripture helps us to know the will of God more clearly and witness more effectively. Our lessons include hands-on activities, songs, crafts, and games designed to address the needs of children with various learning styles.

Manageable
Whether you home school or not, we all have many things pulling for our time. If a curriculum takes too much preparation time, many of us will not use it. The main preparation needed for this study is prayer. The rest of the supplies are provided for you with this study or are common school supplies you probably already have in your closet.
